Police in Gatineau say they found the body of a 31-year-old man while looking into a possible hit-and-run. His death is being treated as suspicious, they say.

Around 2 a.m., police were called to the Carrefour-de-l’Hôpital neighborhood in Gatineau, Que., because there might have been a crash.

The police were first called to the scene near Avenue Gatineau and Rue Stéphane. After talking to witnesses, they were led to the area around Rue Aubin.

There, a crime scene was found, police spokesman Patrick Kenney said.Service of the Gatineau police force (SPVG).

“It appears to be a hit-and-run,” Kenney said. He also said that the crime scene went from rue Aubin to the area of Mont-Luc.

During this investigation, the man’s dead body was found. The 31-year-old man was not from Gatineau, and the police knew him.

There is an investigation going on.

Kenney said that police think the death was a one-time thing and that there is no danger to the public.

As the police investigate, a security perimeter has been set up and several roads have been shut down:

  • Between rue du Rhône and chemin McDermott, Avenue Gatineau is closed.

  • Between Mt. Saint-Amour and Ave. Gatineau, Chemin des Terres is closed.

  • People from rue Stéphane, Mont-Luc, and the areas around them are being sent to rue de Cannes.

Gatineau police have set up a command post on chemin des Terres so that they can talk to anyone who might know more.
