Even though the sale will change the seller’s life, he plans to keep working in retail

A store worker in Toronto who found an extremely rare game card once in a lifetime sold it to Austin Richard Post, who is better known as the rapper and artist Post Malone.

The “One Ring,” which was found in June, is a collectible, one-of-a-kind card made for the tabletop fantasy game Magic: The Gathering. It was made as part of a set honoring J.R.R. Tolkien’s work. The Lord of The Ring series of novels.

Because of how valuable the card was, the person who found it at first chose to keep their identity secret. But on Tuesday, Brook Trafton showed that he was the one who had the card that could win the game for everyone. He put up a video on Instagram of him selling the card to the famous musician who is known to be a big fan of the game.

Trafton told CBC Toronto that he sold the card for $2.64 million, but he was still on his way to an eight-hour shift after doing interviews.

“For me, this would be like putting money away for the future or investing in something. “And when I can’t work anymore or want to try something else, I can,” he says.

The marketing and public relations firm Notable Group helped Trafton sell the card. Carli Posner, the CEO of the group, said she couldn’t say for sure what taxes and fees might be part of the sale.

The story of how Post Malone got the card

Trafton says that Malone asked him to meet up with him while he was in Toronto for a concert. So that the artist could see the card in person, they set up a meeting.

Once they were together, things moved quickly, according to him, and Malone took the lead in turning the meeting into a sale.

“It went by so quickly. I can’t even describe what happened. He said, “It was great.”

In the video, Malone can be seen opening a black protective case to look at the mint-condition card. The card has fiery artwork and a gold ring with writing in the Black Speech of Sauron, one of Tolkien’s made-up languages.

In the montage-style video of their meeting, Malone says at one point, “I’ll take it.”

Malone looked at Trafton’s Magic: The Gathering deck and saw his Magic: The Gathering tattoo, according to Trafton.

Malone has spent a lot of money on a Magic: The Gathering card before, so this isn’t the first time.

He told the that he had bought one before for about $800,000.Howard Stern Show in June 2022.

Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) checked the card that Malone bought from Trafton to make sure it was real. Brad Hartlin works for PSA Canada and is based in Halifax. He flew the card to California for authentication, but he never met Trafton.

Hartlin said that Malone was the “biggest celebrity collector of Magic: The Gathering cards there is.”

He says that this is the first Magic: The Gathering card to have a serial number that says it is the only one of its kind. He says that there may be other one-of-a-kind things in the future, but this one is unique.

“This card will be remembered as the best for a very long time,” he said.
