Police say the last time they saw Randy Cooke, he was on foot

Saskatchewan RCMP have put out a dangerous person alert for a 35-year-old man who was last seen carrying a gun and walking on foot in the Onion Lake Cree Nation area.

The Cree Nation is about 50 km north of Lloydminster, on the border between Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Police said in a news release Thursday morning that Randy Cooke is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. Cooke has black hair and brown eyes, and right now no one knows where he is going.

“It seems like everything is in order. “The RCMP told us about a situation in a certain part of the Nation,” said Pete Chief, the associate director of operations for the Onion Lake Cree Nation.

“There is a road that leads to a neighborhood, but it has been shut down. There won’t be any traffic there.”

Chief said that Cooke may be in the community and that he used to live in the Cree Nation’s northern sub-division. People in that area are being told to find shelter, stay inside, and keep their doors shut.

Chief said that people are taking safety precautions. He said that their security members are out helping the RCMP in the community.

He said that Cooke is a Cree Nation member.

Chief said that the community has a shelter-in-place.Police say that no one should go near Cooke.

As of Thursday afternoon, the RCMP said that there was still a bigger police presence in the area because they were still looking for Cooke. Officers were expected to be in the community for a long time, but no one knew how long.

The RCMP said that Turtleford RCMP and the Critical Incident Response Team, which includes the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, had been called in to help with the investigation.

“People in the area of the Onion Lake Cree Nation stay inside and stay away from windows. Do not leave a place that is safe. Don’t give hitchhikers a ride. “Don’t go to or around Onion Lake Cree Nation,” said a news release from the RCMP.

Chief said that the people in the community are following these rules.
