Bill Hogan set up a meeting for 12:30 p.m. with the news media

During a meeting with the media at a school in Keswick Ridge, west of Fredericton, Bill Hogan, who is the minister of education, is likely to announce more changes to Policy 713.

Hogan is going to talk in front of Keswick Ridge School at 12:30 p.m. The event will be shown live on CBC News. The government said it would announce “adjustments” to Policy 713, which is the province’s policy for schools about gender identity.

Policy 713 was put in place in 2020 to make sure LGBTQ students get at least some support. This includes making sure teachers use the students’ preferred pronouns and that there are gender-neutral bathrooms.

In April, Hogan said that the policy would be looked at by the department. Both he and Premier Blaine Higgs said that parents’ complaints led to the review.

Hogan said in June that he had changed Policy 713 so that any request from a child under 16 to use a certain name or pronoun must be turned down unless the parents agree.

Policy 713 was looked at and changed, which led to arguments, protests, and even disagreements within the Progressive Conservative Party.

They also caused New Brunswick’s child and youth advocate to look into the matter. In a June report, Kelly Lamrock criticized the changes and asked the government to roll them back.
