The head of the city’s public transportation system announced plans to restore service between Tunney’s Pasture and Ottawa

The Confederation Line will start running again between Tunney’s Pasture and uOttawa stations on Tuesday morning, which is a few days ahead of schedule.

The general manager of transit services, Renée Amilcar, said on Monday that work on adjusting the restraint rails has been going on since Thursday and is now done on that part of the track.

“The required work between Tunney’s Pasture and uOttawa stations is done, and OC Transpo has done trial runs in this section to make sure that all train systems are safe and ready for service,” she wrote in a memo to council Monday afternoon.

She said that OC Transpo is now working with a consultant to do a final review to make sure that all the requirements for partial service are met. In the end, it will be up to the city to decide if service will start up again after the holiday.

“Based on the information, once the City Manager is satisfied that the regulatory regime is in compliance and agrees with the recommendation, OC Transpo will move forward with partial service resumption,” the memo said.

At 5 a.m. on Tuesday, five single-car trains will run every five minutes to get service back up and running. For the time being, replacement buses like the R1, R1 Express, and Para R1 will continue to run along with the trains.
