Surprise! It's Majumder, not Majimbo.

WELCOME TO MAJUMDER COUNTRY People tell me this is a great city to visit. But when I ask Shaun Majumder for his impression, he sums it up differently: "Ottawa: The city that hates the most."
Ah, yes. Spoken like a true Leafs fan.
"I went walking through that city with my jersey on and it was like someone was going to beat me down," he tells me. "Not like, 'Ha ha, you guys suck.' It was more like, 'I'm gonna cut your throat.'" On the other hand, he loves performing in this city: "It rocks my face off."
Contradictory? Sure, but I'm not surprised he sees more than one side to any coin. There are more characters in his repertoire than there are misspellings of his name on the Internet.
In conversation, Majumder still comes across as the small town "cappuccino kid" from Newfoundland, the way he's often described in the press. As a comedic actor, he's not so much deadpan in his delivery as sincere, and when he does stand-up, Majumder enjoys himself as much as the audience does.
Though living in L.A. now, does he find that regular work on This Hour Has 22 Minutes and Hatching, Matching and Dispatching-not to mention numerous stand-up appearances on TV-keeps him a familiar face?
"People come up to me all the time," he says, laughing. "'I've seen you on that For Laughs thingy.' They'll approach me and say, 'Well, if it isn't Shaun Majimbo.'"
"Majumder" as a brand name is clearly still a work in progress, but it hasn't slowed him down a bit-his website
www.shaunmajumder.com offers an excellent sample of the range of his work. And that Just For Laughs thingy? It's back in town in one of its many incarnations, this time as The Comedy Tour with Majumder working front and centre as host. He says it's just another great way to bring a bit of the festival to the rest of the country. This year, Majumder shares the stage with comedians from Canada (Ryan Belleville, Scott Faulconbridge), the U.S. (Rocky LaPorte, Rod Thompson) and Australia (Carl Barron). Check out the clips on www.hahaha.com/shows/comedy-tour-2005 to see what you're in for.
Anything he'd like to add? "I know I shouldn't say this, but... go Leafs go."
I just had to ask.
The Lipton Just For Laughs Comedy Tour will be at the National Arts Centre at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. this Sunday, November 6, one night only. For tickets, contact the NAC box (947-7000, ext. 280) office or Ticketmaster (755-1111).
Got a hankering for more cross-Canada comedy? Drop by Absolute Comedy between November 3 and 6 to check out East Coast comic Darryl Purvis, and Montreal humour à la Neil Janna.

I've seen Sean in Montreal at the Just For Laughs Festival and at the Atlantic Scene at the NAC in Ottawa. He's a wonderful comic who knows how to work the audience. He is a great guy, as he mingled with the crowd after the Comedy Of The Coast show of The Atlantic Scene. May his Newfie star shine brightly.

Shaun Majumder is one of the funniest men in comedy. I've watched him ever since he was an up and coming young Newfoundlander (and I'm a much younger Newfoundlander) and knew from the get go that this guy was going to be a star. His Rajhe Binder character on 22 Minutes is one of the funniest characters on all of Television; however, his NHL team choice is a bit depressing. What Toronto Maple Leafs have for dinner last Saturday? They 8-nothing. Go Sens Go.

On the new season of This Hour has 22 Minutes, Shaun Majumder is no longer mentioned as a host. It seems that he's been replaced by Shauna MacDonald, who is nowhere near as hilarious. It's great to hear that he's now making a living in Hollywood. SJ had a small roll in Harold & Kumar go to White Castle.
