MusiquePlus Big Shiny '90s
Jamie O'Meara

I'll say this: You'd have to have cojones to put out a '90s "best of" collection knowing what we all know about the decade that rock should've forgotten. Well, turns out MusiquePlus has the biggest balls of them all with this two-CD compilation of songs that, um, defined the decade. If Matchbox Twenty, Live, Blind Melon, Third Eye Blind, Silverchair and Collective Soul were your bag then, may God have mercy on your soul, this is the thing for you. If, on the other hand, Oasis, The Cure, Elastica, Depeche Mode, Fatboy Slim, Jane's Addiction and Veruca Salt were your cup of tea, this may also be just the thing for you. One thing for sure: There's too much crap amongst these 34 tracks to make this an enjoyable listen straight through. (Interestingly, no Pearl Jam.) (Jamie O'Meara)

I Miss the Big Shiny Tune Records

I remember winning a compilation of Big Shiny Tunes 2 CD back in 1997 and it was so great to listen to because it had songs from all of my favourite artists like Prodigy, Bush and the amazing Radiohead. I love listening to big shiny tunes and this compilation album of the best tunes from the nineties is a must have if you don't already own one. All of the 34 tracks chosen for the album are classic. Depeche Mode and The Cure were really good choices made for the album because those two bands are very important and had a very high impact in the nineties. I'm also surprised that there is no Pearl Jam because they were one of the best bands from that decade.

It's My Tea Party

I live in a rural area with lousy radio. When you don't have a lot of choices, you appreciate things more; this compilation is great in my car, pretty smooth all the way through. I can live without Matchbox Twenty and Marcy Playground, but the rest is a lot of fun. I'm going to buy the second cd, too. Cobain was great, but not the be-all and end-all. The music did not stop the day he died, and everyone has their own interpretation and improvement. We keep on evolving, just like we always did. I'm a 48 old female, so my experience spans many decades of music, and there is great stuff (and some pretty bad) music all along the line. Rock on.

Bring on the 90s

Only a few short years ago, the 80s were deemed to be the word decade musically brought forth by such terrible acts such as Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, and the glorious Hair Metal Movement. Can the 90s be that forgettable when it followed a decade known for its self-absorbance and indulgence? I mean every decade has great music and this one takes no exception.

Big Shiny 90s represents some of the finer and less glamorous moments of the 90s that I want to remember and forget. It's always troublesome to put down a decade's worth of tracks onto one compliation but with a compliation having songs from The Cure, Depeche Mode, Jane's Addiction, Faith No More, Blink 182, and Fatboy Slim, I seriously believe you cannot go wrong. I mean there's also corporate filler but that's what you get when you buy these compilations.

CDspin/Various artists that have been forgotten...and many deservedly so/MusiquePlus Big Shiny Tunes '90's

Big Shiny '90's?

You're kidding me right?

That whole decade imploded musically after Cobain wussed to the pressures of fame, fortune and being married to Courtney "I'm not a whore or a black widow" Love and popped his head off like a zit.

If this CD was at least a collection of grunge's best then maybe I might be able to say some nice things about it but this isn't. A good portion here are grunge's bastard neo-offspring who caught the beat but not the movement.

34 tracks of some of the worse beats to kill a decade into submission. Oh yeah, there are a few nice gems here and there but I'm willing to bet you already have these in your CD rack anyways so why would you bother with this CD.

The 70's and 80's provided great stuff to groove to but the 90's? That's a trip down memory lane I'd rather forget.

Big shiny 90's isnt the greatest but don't rag on the 90's

The CD sucks but the 90's where the brightest decade for music since the late 60's to early 70's. How could u rag on bands like pearl jam, counting crows, live, The Tragically Hip, collective soul, and third eye blind... give your head a shake buddy.
