Boxer The Horse - (Collagen Rock Records)

Potatoes Everywhere Island would seem to have a disproportionate number of highly capable and listenable indie rock bands, as evidenced yet again by Charlottetown four-piece Boxer The Horse. A betting person would say this latest Band of Green Gables has maybe more than a passing familiarity with the oeuvre of a certain band called The Kinks, such is their facility with psychedelic-tinged rock and pop of that variety. Not that Would You Please, the band's full-length debut, doesn't have its own things going on - a singular playfulness and a willingness to step out of bounds when the mood strikes, for example - but you'd have to be deaf, dumb and blind (er, primarily deaf) not to draw the obvious comparison. But hey, drawing is fun, and so is Boxer The Horse.
