The argument against albums being too long is that they're reviewed as a whole, and it's near impossible for a band to release, in this case, 16 great songs. But even that's a bit of a fallacy because I do grant hip-hop albums some sway on the strength of strong singles. There are some real highlights here: melodically soaring and swooping chamber pop like New England, Conway Killjoy and Gold Rush. How can you go wrong with horns when building le pomp pop? The songs are mostly on the shorter side, which compensates for the quantity, but maybe I just play too many video games while drinking too much coffee and chewing my Ritalin gum.
