Sexsmith & Kerr - (Ronboy Rhymes/Warner)

Destination Unknown
Steve Guimond

The first official release for these Canadian music figureheads after years of collaborations live and on wax: Ron Sexsmith, the talented guitar slinging singer-songwriter, heartbreak specialist and crafter of pop; Don Kerr, long-time Rheostatics stick-man, co-owner of the legendary Gas Station studio, commander of the cello, voice and guitar. Mellow, acoustic treats are the result, while gorgeous two-part harmonies are all over this one, with tributes to the brothers Everly and Louvin acting as major inspiration. Sadness and the march of time combine to highlight life's fragility, love's loss and gain, and everyday realities.

(((My Two Cents))) - Great Collaboration

Ron Sexsmith. Don Kerr. How many times have these guys played at the same show. Don Kerr comes out during a Ron Sexsmith song and starts playing along. Ron Sexsmith comes out during a Don Kerr song and he starts adding his guitar to the mix. Seriously, whenever these guys play live together, the people in the audience truly get their moneysworth. It was about damn time that they decided to make an album together.

Both of these men are great with an accoustic guitar and their collaborations are great. It is finally time for them to create a CD which they could release. They create some extremely mellow riffs and as both of their voices are incredible on this album. You can just closes your eyes and enjoy the beautiful music these two create together. At times, Don Kerr brings it his cello into the mix and at other times we get some piano from Ron Sexsmith. Together, they are an absolutely great team and this album is beautiful. Good job to some great Canadian musicians.

Along for the Ride!

Hmmm, these guys are quite the tandem - amazing friends, tremendous musicians and their songs, heartfelt, acoustic ditties, are so thoroughly engaging that you can help but smile at the sound of those impeccable harmonies. They showcased a few of these gems at Ron Sexsmith's JazzFest show last summer and had the crowd enraptured with their gentle, almost pastoral beauty.
