Tupac - (Eagle Rock/Death Row)

Live at the House of Blues Soundtrack
Brendan Murphy

Last time I reviewed a posthumous Tupac release, the folks on Hour's online message board lambasted me for erroneously reporting that Tupac was an up-and-coming rapper from Winnipeg. Apparently Tupac fans come from a time when sarcasm didn't exist. This live album is actually pretty good and, as his last recorded public performance two months before his death, has some historical significance. Listen to Big Pimpin' with Nate Dogg and pour some out, but, if you want to really feel the frisson, check Pac call Snoop back on stage to rock 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.

Tupac lives on

Although he's been dead quite a long while, will he ever really die? Not if some fans have anything to say about it, aiding and abetting his continual resurrection from the grave by supporting post-mortem-type releases like this one. Yeah, you've guessed right, I have never been a huge rap fan and do not understand the whole gangland debacle surrounding Tupac and other rapper's deaths.

I suppose that other artists' fame has continued or even increased after their deaths, Jimmy Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley all come to mind, with of course The Beatles and Elvis Presley at the top of the list. In fact, Elvis is the top-earning dead celebrity, generating $45m for his estate through royalties from 2004-2005. Not bad, not bad.

Second on the list is Charles Schulz, so it seems that Tupac may have a long way to go...

Live is always good

I wonder why no one came out with this any sooner? There's been never released tracks that have made whole new Tupac albums in the past, which didn't always fare so well, when they could have simply made this live album a long , long time ago! If you're a real Tupac fan, you might want to get this to add to your collection, cause you're never going to see this again.

CDspin/Tupac/Live at the House of Blues Soundtrack

I'm sorry but Tupac is dead right? I seem to recall reading about it somewhere, a pretty violent death if I recall properly so how is it that Tupac can continue to release albums ~years after~ his untimely death? I know we've all got to make a living but this is above and beyond the pale.

~

Look, I get that Tupac had a huge following and that his fans dearly miss him but this annual morbid trek to the grave to release yet another posthumous CD is getting a bit out of control. Good production value aside there's pretty much nothing here that you really need. If you're a completist then sure, it's a valid purchase but otherwise? Pointles corporate marketing of a rap icon right before Christmas to bleed more blood from his memory.

Tupac Live It Has To Be Good

I have always been a big Tupac fan Even before he died. He has been dead for nine years now and he's still making money. He Has to be good Although I never got to see him live I am sure he was amazing. This CD I'm sure will Be a hit among true tupac fans. There are people who say ya I like Tupac but only started listening to him after he was dead and only know a few of his songs, but for a true Tupac fan who liked him from the begining and knows more about his music then his greatest hit Cd. This Cd will be a must have.

Another Tupac album?

I'm getting sick of all these new Tupac releases almost 10 years after his death. Can people not allow him to rest in peace like any normal person?

There is clearly someone else profitting off Tupac's death.
