Nelly - (Universal)

Sweat
Brendan Murphy

We need a Nelly double CD as much as we need two new reviews of his albums, so, in that self-indulgent spirit, here we go. Nelly, who I've long suspected as being as dumb as a Bush, puts all his mediocre monkeys in this one barrel. He samples shamelessly from Curtis Mayfield's Superfly on Tilt Ya Head Back with Christina Aguilera, then ruins a Neptunes beat before going on to artistically castrate Mobb Deep on Playa, a task that almost deserves respect. Nelly is a rap cupcake with extra sugary icing and the tweens can have him.

Nelly: Sweat

God, does this guy sucks or what?

Never, ever, understood why everybody, back in the days that "Country Grammar", or whatever the f**ck his first LP was called, have dropped, what the fuzz was all about. Well, check this: it was about NOTHING! No, folks, I ain't hating, just proclaiming something that everybody, even the most hardcore fans, must by now have realize: this dude is this generation's MC Hammer! Basic rap skills back by no substance and nothing interesting to say. Only dance/bump'n'grind/come-here-baby-so-I-can-do-things-to-you-that-your-mama-won't-like/radio-friendly craps, which all and all shouldn't be that bad, except that this hack have only done this ever since he enters the game. What's the difference between 1998's Nelly and his current version? Mo' money, and that's it!

I have to admit that I question my feeling for this douchebag when the single "Hot in Here" drop. I means, I actually enjoyed it, enough anyway to be THAT CLOSE to seriously thinking of buying the record, but I wanted to know if it was just a fluk... So I've waited for the release of Sweat to make up my mind. And, boy, did I ever! That crap is whack! No life, no rythmes, nothing! The lyrics sucks! The beats are flats! How the hell this shit can make anyone wanna get down?!!!

Well, it can't; did anyone else see Nelly's performance on SNL, back in September? Man, do the people weren't feeling him! I saw this public go bananas over DMX, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Outkast and Black Eyed Peas where those guys were over there. But poor little Nelly didn't get shit! It wasn't as if they booed him out of the set, à la Ashley Simpson, but, eh, at least then he would have had a reaction! And can you really blame them? His stuffs couldn't even wake a baby starting to make his tooths!

But, see, I can bitch about Nelly all I want, that cat STILL was #1 and 2 on the Billboard selling chart. Proving, I guess, that taste and quality can't beat down a marquee name. Which bring us to "Suit"...

ahh...

i know the dude who reviewed the CDs and he owns them both and listened to them both. what is it with the reviews of reviews and the insistence that the dude didn't listen to them or dosen't even own them? editors do not accept reviews that are not backed up- there are actual legal ramifications. dude listened to sweat and suit and he didn't like them. got it?

is it a coincidence that all the people defending these albums are girls? maybe yes, maybe no, i'm just sayin.

They're great.

First off all i think the people who havent listened to sweat suit are the ones bad mouthing it that doesnt make any sense those people have no right to judge something they don't know. You really need to give it a chance. I have purchased both Sweat Suit on their release date and i'm loving them. I love the fact that two albums were released with two different moods. I listen to them occassionaly they really are great albums. The albums had a lot of callaborations on them with such artists as Lil Flip, Jazzy Pha, St.Lunatics, Jahiem, Avery Storm , Tim Mcgraw ( which actually surprised everybody but turned out to be a great song) and etc...

some songs on the albums you should check out are

Paradise

N dey Say

Na na na

Down in the water

Over and Over

Heart of a Champion

and more..

I recommend that you listen to this album beforeeeee saying anything.

Its out in stores now go buy it.

Nelly is still doin' it...

No matter how much people want to say Nelly is washed up, it will never be that case. He's still doing it and it was only obvious when he hit platinum w/ his Da Derrty Versions (Remix) album of all his originals. As well as the fact that Nelly made history for Hip Hop culture and music by becoming the first African American to top the charts w/ two albums in the #1 and #2 spots.

As far as the albums Sweat and Suit, I feel these are some of his best work yet. I feel like its about damn time he brings it back to the Country Grammar days. And when has Nelly ever been considered gangsta??? That goes to show the people reviewing his music have no idea what their talking about. Nelly is about making some classic head bobbing, club bangin' hits...as well as them smooth R&B hits like My Place and Dilemma. Here we have people claiming Hot in Herre and Ride Wit Me was his best work? Ummmm have you listened to any of his other albums/songs? Cause to me, those were his commercial songs to get ya'll to buy the album when in reality they were not even that hott (to me).

Sweat offers some club hits that make you want to get up and dance. And no matter what folks say, they can't deny it. 'Tilt Ya Head Back' turned out to be an awesome song, although I feel he should have released 'Down In Da Water' or the single w/ Steve Marley & Murphy Lee 'River Don't Runn'. With Suit...thats his close to his best work ever, we finally get to see another side of Nelly, he talks about his children and you seen a more GROWN up Nelly.

How can you rate an album and never heard the singles? Basically shows you were one of them folks following the crowd back w/ Nellyville and CG (others thought it was hott, so did you)...and things still ain't changed w/ that.

*shakin' my head*

Nelly; A little washed up...

When I found out that Nelly's "long anticipated" album (oh please!) was a double C.D. feature entitled Sweat and Suit (Sweatsuit? All right then...), I was a little more than disgusted. Is it just me or is this guy washed up? Sure, a few years ago he burned a new trail for rappers everywhere with explosive, catchy songs like "Hot in Herre", and "Ride Wit Me", but now that trail is crumbled, just like him. I say Nelly should quit the music biz and get into the movie industry...I actually think he'd be successful there. He's a good looking guy with a lot of charm, perfect for acting, but his songs remind me of of the good ol days when Will Smith was found at the top of the charts...enough said. I'm not going to waste my money on Sweat or Suit, and I think everyone should follow my lead and invest their money in something a little more meaningful. My apologies to those who bought this C.D. (or both!), and like it...I know it isn't right to criticize an album when I haven't even listened to it, but I can already tell I won't enjoy it. And yes, "My Place" feat. Jahiem was terrible, and I can guarantee all the other songs on Sweat (and Suit) will be just as bad, if not worse.

Honestly, the rappers these days...I say we just leave all rap music behind, it's pointless and should have never happened; it's just a pathetic excuse for young stars to come out, pretend their hardcore gangsta, then rhyme slang/swear/offensive/racist words profusely to the beat of studio-generated, techno beats. Rap music is definately one of today's most popular music, and I...I look at the world in complete shock at the treacherous level music has sunk to.

I like both of them

I think that both of his CD's are good. I love the song with Tim Mcgraw, and it's one of the most requested songs played. His song with Christina is good too and really fun to listen to. Out of all of you who are criticizing him, especially if you haven't heard it, where is you're CD?? How many number one's have you had to say he has crumbled?? And to say he is a wanna be gangsta, have you been to downtown St. Louis or the parts that are poor?? It's not a nice place. Not that he is a gansta but stop criticizing people. Who are any of you to say all of this?? Jealous he has a great career??
