MxPx - Tooth & Nail/EMI

Ten Years and Running
John MacFarlane

Wow, MxPx have been around for a whole 10 years? It's probably time, then, to release an album-long retrospective of their groundbreaking work in the field of predictable punk rock. To be fair, MxPx are not a band completely without merit, and this compilation is almost entirely made up of remixes and alternate versions, as well as a few new tracks, so the record isn't merely the same songs repackaged (it also comes with a very fat insert with more photographs than even the most diehard fan could possibly be interested in). On the other hand, albums such as this one often expose a band's lack of depth and diversity. Which is pretty much the case here. (John MacFarlane)

MxPx - Ten Years and Running

I never could understand how these guys developed a fan base. There a one-dimensional band, who play boring punk rawk. They've had a couple of good tunes ('Responsibility'), but barely enough to count on one hand. Although I felt bad for them when they got curcified in the punk scene for being a 'Christian punk band' and for signing to a major record label, it was never enough to make me go out and buy their album.

I guess if you really wanted to check 'em out, this would be a good place to start, but I'd suggest NOFX, No Use For A Name or Lagwagon over these guys any day.
