Adjani's personal favorite

At the 2004 Montreal's WFF, Adjani said that "Camille Claudel" was her personal favorite.

I easily agree.

Adjani was also the co-producer, but her biggest investment was in the playing of the Auguste Rodin's tortured wife Camille Claudel. It's a performance we would compare to De Niro's performance in Raging Bull; a total investment in the portrayal a historic character and on which the whole film lies.

Of course, we can see a metaphor on artists' work and struggle but also on a free-minded woman and her desire and passion.

The film is indeed long and dark. Some critics found it too academic and linear. So, it is not totally strange that, despite the success, former cinematographer Bruno Nuytten didn't go on with more successuful features.

Very well adapted!

This is a very good film, which is very well adapted to the screen; the cinematography and dialogue are both great. In my opinion, this is another essential and great introduction to French cinematography. The cast includes two great French actors (among the greatest in France!) Isabelle Adjani, and Gerard Depardieu.

A wonderful classic movie!

I believe that this beautiful film is one of the best of the year 1988 when Adjani shines with her big talent . Everything is in this film there: suspense, love of course and drama. All the dialogues are very well led! Depardieu are also talented and touching! I give 4 stars to this good film! To see
