Ten horror films to die for
The Drunken Master

The Drunken Master's ghoulish list of horror flicks

Let me begin by stating that this list is in no way a top 10 list. This is simply a list of 10 horror films you should watch this Halloween season. Period.

Blood Feast (1963) - Director Herschell Gordon Lewis stopped making "nudist" movies in favour of blood and guts, in turn creating the first ever "gore" movie. The film was shot in Miami in nine days for just $25,000. Playboy Playmate Connie Mason has her tongue removed in a close-up!

Twitch of the Death Nerve (1971) - Americans consider John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) the first ever slasher film. Canadians consider Black Christmas (1974) the original slasher movie. However, the first time teenagers were slaughtered on the big screen was in Mario Bava's 1971 film, Twitch of the Death Nerve. Trust me, this film delivers!

The Sinful Dwarf (1973) - This is a very silly title for a surprisingly effective movie. The film is about a dwarf and his mother who kidnap young girls and shoot them up with heroin in order to satisfy their twisted and perverted needs. For adults only!

Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (1974) - Six years after Night of the Living Dead, four years before Dawn of the Dead, Let Sleeping Corpses Lie marks the first ever zombie movie shot in colour. Strangely this film does what most zombie movies never do: explain the outbreak. A must see!

Race With
the Devil
(1975) - See what happens when Peter Fonda and Warren Oates take their hot girlfriends out for a weekend of dirt bike racing and devil worship. The film features actual Satan worshippers as extras.

The Lift (1983) - Probably the best Dutch horror film about a killer elevator. Featuring scene after scene of outrageous elevator deaths.

The Shaft (2001) - Hollywood remake from the director of The Lift, this time starring Naomi Watts! How many ways can you kill a guy with an elevator? Watch The Shaft to find out.

Shark Attack 3: Megalodon (2002) - This movie is slowly becoming a cult favourite. Easily the best shark movie made in Bulgaria. The special effects are some of the funniest ever put on film.

Bells of Innocence (2003) - The plot of this movie may be hard to believe, but here goes: Mike Norris (son of Chuck Norris) must transport a shipment of Bibles across a desert. When his plane crash lands in an unmapped village he must fight off hordes of Satan worshippers with the help of an angel played by Chuck Norris, who fights off the Satanists by shooting laser beams from his fingertips. Not scary, nor effective in any way - just damn funny! Plus it's got Chuck Norris.

The Gingerdead Man (2005) - What happens when the soul of a convicted killer ends up possessing the body of a delicious gingerbread cookie and goes on a killing rampage? What if the cookie features the voice of Gary Busey? Tagline for the movie: "Evil Never Tasted So Good!" Agreed.

Spooky International Films to see!

...The music rises...your skin becomes clammy...the hair on the back of your neck rises...

Horror movies are such wicked fun! With so many genres of horror movie available - why not widen your horror horizons with international horror offerings this Hallowe'en? Here are a few suggestions for global gore:

Ringu and Ringu 2 - With a tagline like "One curse, one cure, one week to find it" - how can you resist the original Japanese versions of The Ring and The Ring 2? With renowned Japanese director Hideo Nakata at the helm - you are drawn into a world of suspense and psychological terror, regardless of language!

Ju-On and Ju-On 2- "The Grudge" was no Hollywood invention - the evil house resides in Japan and so does the credit for the original, "Ju-On". This film presents and opportunity for the curious to learn more about the background of the grudge presented from a totally Japanese point of view, whereas "The Grudge" took place in Japan, but from the point of view of an American (Sarah Michelle Geller). Prepare yourself for eerie moments and a plot that sticks with you.

Gwoemul (The Host) - A horror offering from South Korea, this movie has enjoyed great popularity in North America. While a hungry mutant slug may not sound so scary, director Joon-ho Bong masterfully draws the audience into the fight against this slimy foe and the humble family it destroys.

After watching these great international horror flicks...don't forget to check under your bed...sleep tight...muahahaha!
