The F Award

Jim Bryson nails best Folk Band/Artist
photo: Aaron McKenzie Fraser

I anticipate Jim Bryson will groan and say something like "not the F word" after I tell him that he's won Best Folk Band/Artist in the XPress' annual Best of Ottawa Readers Poll. Instead, Bryson is (as always) cordial and quite happy to hear he's been selected. "I like the idea of being a folk person, it's really nice to be recognized for what you do. I'm more than happy to win a folk award." He should be. He labels himself as a folk rock/indie/two-step artist on his MySpace site - a great place to check out the folker's new songs that will likely appear on this forthcoming album, due for release in early '07. The buzz generated from his previous releases as well as his work with Kathleen Edwards has made the upcoming release one of the most anticipated local albums on the horizon. Who knows, maybe it'll give Bryson another shot at the F word next year. In the meantime, Bryson plays two shows at the Black Sheep Inn on Friday and Saturday, December 8 and 9.
